2012 Yearend Roundup Marathon: Top Trending News Stories

There are a lot of things that happened this year that left a mark. Here’s my top picks countdown: 

10. The impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona who was been convicted and removed from office; a one of a kind in the Philippine history. And yeah, the hospital arrest of former president Gloria Arroyo. Also, the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro between the Philippine Government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front. And of course, the ending of the world on December 21, 2012.  

9. Major calamities that injured the Philippines. An earthquake with a magnitude of around 6.9 in Negros and Cebu and a thousand aftershocks in a month. People thought there would be a tsunami. And after days and/or weeks, there were even scattered non-related quakes in the country like the magnitude 7.9 undersea quake in eartern Philippines which caused landslides, damage on buildings and highways. And the Typhoon Pablo with International name Bopha hits Southern Philippines with major damages at Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental which killed a thousand people with a thousand homeless.

8. The Philippines was shocked about the illness and the death of the King of Comedy Dolphy and the plane accident of DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.

7. Another Filipino act, Jessica Sanchez won as runnerup on the American Idol Season 11. And also Binibining Pilipinas-Universe Janine Tugonon was hailed Miss Universe 2012 1st runner-up.

6. The third party syndrome in Philippine TV and movies. After the hit of No Other Woman came The Mistress and A Secret Affair with third party themed television series like Temptation of a Wife, Two Wives and many more others which makes mistresses famous these days.

5. The canonization of the second Filipino saint, Pedro Calungsod at the Vatican City. And the tagged as "A Wedding Like No Other" by nuptials Carmina Villaruel and Zoren Legaspi.

4. The defeat of the Pound for pound King Pacman against Bradley in the controversial split decision and his sensational knockout against Marquez in their fourth fight. But The Filipino Flash knocked-out Arce which uplifts our boxing pride and is ESPN's Boxer of the Year.

3. The Cybercrime Prevention Act was put into law with netizens expressing their protests and Anonymous Philippines hacking government websites.

2. #Sottocopy and #Sinotto buzzed Twitter trending topics for Tito Sotto's plagiarism act during a speech on RH Bill issue. Also, the #Amalayer hashtag on Paula Salvosa vs. LRT guard incident goes viral with parodies.

1. Korean rapper Psy’s Gangnam Style became a nationwide dance craze uplifting the Korean pop music around the globe which also hit a billion views in youtube over Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe which was the much-parodied single this year.

Oppa gangnam style heyo sexy lady…. oh oh oh....
